Boxing Club adopts CIO status
A Goole boxing club which has been punching above its weight since opening its doors has become an independent charity.

Goole Judo Club and Selby-based Judo Spirit Academy took a team of four judokas over to the English Institute of Sport earlier this month.
The event was hugely attended this year, having 735 entries, with some of the clubs’ judokas being in the largest categories of each day. The British Schools Championships sees the athletes represent their schools as well as their judo clubs. Jacob Cuff represented Garforth Academy, Lily Fox represented Barlby High School, Paisley Savage represented Read School and Ronnie Fox represented York College.
Saturday saw Lily and Jacob compete in Years 8-9 and Paisley in Years 10-11. Lily, in a new age bracket, kicked off the day for us. Lily lost her first fight, won her second by walkover due to her opponent being medically withdrawn and unfortunately lost her third after being a yuko up. Jacob in his new weight category (+66kg) had two really great contests, sadly losing both by wazari and going the distance to the full contest times. Last up was Paisley. Paisley was in a new age bracket and weight category for the first time, and the largest girls category (22 girls) of the entire weekend. Paisley won her first fight by ippon throw, lost her second (after seeing this from a different angle could have been contested), won her third with two wazari throws and a yuko throw, then unfortunately lost her fourth. Sunday saw just Ronnie compete for the team in Years 12-13 category.
The event was so well attended that the entries closed early which prevented some other college students entering. Ronnie was also in a new age bracket, and the biggest men’s category of the day. Ronnie was up against brown and black belts in his contests. Ronnie unfortunately lost both his contests. All the students showed great improvement with what they had been working on and we now have new things to work on for our next events coming up. As always we are extremely proud of the team, win or lose, there’s always positives and something to work on. Well done Team!
